Tasmania has just come through another election season, and while the politics may shift, the needs of our communities remain the same. The good news is that whichever way the votes fell, every party pledged to back the work of Loaves and Fishes and the broader vision of moving from relief to resilience.
Now, with Premier Rockliff’s Liberal team supported by a mixed crossbench, we see this as a new season of opportunity. The commitment to the Relief to Resilience Strategy is in place and together we can turn that commitment into action. Our role is to partner well, keep the conversation honest, and keep building a Tasmania where good food is available to every person, every day.
Food
Our mission has never been clearer. Every week, across our kitchen facilities in both the North and South, our team continues to prepare over 5,000 yummy, nutritious ready-to-eat meals, providing food relief for those who need it most.
Alongside this, we are distributing significant amounts of fresh Tasmanian produce, thanks in part to an innovative partnership with OzHarvest. This collaboration means more food reaching those who need it most, increasing our output, reducing waste, and expanding access to fresh, nutritious fruit and vegetables right across the state.
We deeply value the generosity of those who donate food, it remains an essential part of providing immediate relief to Tasmanians doing it tough. But we’re also committed to supporting our local economy. That’s why, alongside donations, we’re building commercial partnerships that allow us to purchase larger volumes of ingredients and produce. These partnerships are vital for scaling our social enterprise and meeting the consistent supply needs of programs like the School Lunch Program and the Social Wholesaler.
We’re building stronger connections between what’s grown in Tasmania and the tables of Tasmanians in need. To do this well, we want to understand what is being grown where, and in what seasons, right across the state. If you’ve got produce, we’re ready to talk price.
By partnering with us, you can make sure good local food reaches families who need it most. 👉 If you or your business would like to explore how we can work together, contact our team today at socialwholesaler@lft.org.au. Together, we can make an even greater impact.
In schools, we continue to champion full-service breakfast programs that not only fill bellies, but also lift nutritional standards for every child from the very start of the day. On top of this, our team is producing more than 13,000 meals every week for the School Lunch Program — raising the bar on nutrition and setting a new benchmark for what school food can look like in Tasmania.
Community
Change always starts in community. Our long-time partners at Grans Van are innovators as we move food relief towards resilience. Their work shows what happens when food is more than just calories, when it’s shared with dignity, care, and consistency, it becomes a catalyst for hope and change.
Their story is a powerful glimpse of what this future can look like:

Jobs
We’re not just filling plates — we’re creating futures. Through our training and employment programs, we’re preparing the next generation of food heroes. Our trainee department is gaining momentum, with 25 participants stepping into nationally recognised training and supported employment pathways.
It’s not just about skills in the kitchen or warehouse — it’s about confidence, belonging, and the chance at a new future. You can see this story of hope and progress in our latest video:

Looking Forward
Yes, the challenges are real. But more importantly, so is the momentum. Together — government, community, schools, churches, producers, and supporters like you — we’re shaping a food system that is stronger, fairer, and more sustainable.
This is a season not just of political change, but of real opportunity. Thank you for standing with us as we keep moving forward, together.
