Buying a bottle of award-winning Forth Valley olive oil helps feed Tasmanians doing it tough.
The precious liquid made from Forth Valley Olives through a social enterprise partnership with Loaves and Fishes Tasmania, has won a silver medal at the 2021 coveted Australian International Olive Awards.
Profits from sales will be used in Loaves and Fishes’ emergency food relief work.
For the first time in 25 years, retired doctors John and Claire O’Sullivan were unable to harvest the 2021 crop at the grove they started as a hobby. Enter Loaves and Fishes staff and friends who harvested the crop, arranged for pressing and bottling, and now sales and marketing.
Most of the extra virgin oil has been sold in bulk to restaurants, and Hobart delicatessen and food institution, Wursthaus Kitchen, who have supported the O’Sullivans since they started making olive oil.
“They have been a consistent performer for us,” said Wursthaus owner Peter Trioli.
“The oil regularly wins gold and silver medals.
“It’s great olive oil, and to know sales are helping Tasmanians through Loaves and Fishes is very satisfying.”
Residents living in the North West can also buy olive oil from the Loaves and Fishes office in Don Road.
A 500ml bottle sells for $18, with proceeds from the social enterprise being used in our emergency food relief work.
Judges said of the 2021 vintage: “Ripe pomme fruits, spice, meadow hay and banana aroma on the nose and transferring well to the palate with additional green harb and almond. The fruity taste lingers throughout, light bitterness and warm chilli pungency with a lingering clean finish.”
