Deputy State Opposition Leader Anita Dow, and celebrated chef Massimo Mele will take to the surf this month to raise money for Tasmanians battling hunger and cold this winter.
Anita, the Member for Braddon and former Burnie Mayor, will plunge into the sea at Penguin on Sunday, June 23, while Loaves and Fishes ambassador, Massimo, will get wet a week later at Kingston Beach. Both swims start at 8am.
Massimo aims to raise $2000 from public donations, and says he will match whatever comes in from sponsors.
He said he supported Loaves and Fishes because the organisation was Tasmanian, and used Tasmanian produce to make tasty, healthy meals to feed Tasmanians doing it tough.
“The more time I spend with Andrew (CEO) and the team, the more I’m inspired to do what I can to help out.”
Loaves and Fishes kitchen, warehouse and admin staff, and dozens of community supporters will take part in the two Solstice Splashes.
The goal is to raise $50,000 to make winter meals for Tasmanians struggling with cost of living pressures and often having to choose between heating and eating.
