We’re asking Tasmanians to raise money for our neighbours doing it tough by taking a winter solstice splash at either Greens Beach (June 19) or Kingston Beach (June 25). Both events start at 8am.

We raised more than $30,000 at our inaugural event last year at Greens Beach, with teacher Phil van Ryn (above left) and Deputy Premier Michael Ferguson raising almost half that amount from their friends and family. The splash became part of our winter meals appeal, raising $60,000 in total, equivalent to 60,000 ready-to-eat-meals.

This year we are adding a second splash at lovely Kingston Beach.

We’re asking splashers to raise a minimum of $50 for the privilege of taking a short dip to mark the shortest and coldest days of the year.

Splashers can enjoy a free barbecue breakfast, and compete for some fabulous prizes awarded to our highest fundraisers.

This year we are rewarding our best fundraisers with dinner for two and a night’s accommodation at Wrest Point for our Kingston Beach entrants, and a dinner for two and a night’s accommodation at Grains of the Silos Restaurant and Peppers Silo Hotel for our Greens Beach splashers.

Find out more and register. Then link your fundraising profile to your social media account.

Girls in neck-to-knees

Several of last year’s splashers dressed up in tutus, neck-to-knee costumes from the 1800s.

We also had a Banana in Pyjamas and Plucka Duck join in the fun.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 from the 2022 swims.

We are grateful to our partners, Launceston Surf Lifesaving Club and Kingston Surf Lifesaving Clubs who are providing eater safety and the breakfast barbecue for competitors and their friends.

We also want to acknowledge our sponsors, West Tamar Council, Kingborough Council, Grain of the Silos, Peppers Silo Hotel, Wrest Point, Kingborough Chronicle, LA FM, Chilli FM, Launceston Examiner.
